Today, I had the great pleasure of appearing at the official press conference of the National Taichung Theatre for the upcoming premiere of Massenet’s Cendrillon / Cinderella. Unlike a press conference in Europe, I was actually asked to appear in costume! So I showed up in my Act 2 gala tailcoat, in wig and makeup, which turned out to be a big attraction. Many of the questions were directed at the fact that I am portraying a male character… Yes indeed, I do try to mimic the movements and body posture of a young man while playing the prince, and no, I do not change the colour of my voice to sound more male. To prove my point, I got to perform one of my solo sections from the Act 3 duet. Getting to know the role better and better, it turns out that these are the two most challenging pages of the role… „I would conquer the whole world to see her again, yes, the whole world!“ A dashing young prince indeed. Looking forward to the premiere next week!
