Learning a new Wagnerian role for the next season—the goddess of love, beauty, fertility, and prosperity: Venus in Tannhäuser.
As a high school student, while I was devoted to the organ at music school, my path led me to the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, where I heard my very first Wagner—Tristan und Isolde—and it was love at first hearing. I became a young Wagnerian, and little did I know then that my voice was truly destined for Wagnerian roles.
Fortunately, my training as an organist taught me a great deal about harmony, polyphony, and orchestration, so I approach Wagnerian roles with deep curiosity and interest. Tannhäuser exists in three versions, but I will be performing the Dresden version, considered the most challenging. As this is already my ninth Wagnerian role, I approach it with great respect, fully aware of the stamina and strength this repertoire demands.
My thanks to Maestro Simon Krečič for making this debut possible, as well as my Slovenian debut at the National Theatre in Maribor.
